Calrec Hit Quarter Century with Trio Video
Chicago-based remote production specialists Trio Video roll out their second Hi Def truck in as many years with the purchase of a 56 fader Calrec Sigma 100 console…the 25th Sigma 100 console sold.
Trio's "Phoenix" is a 53-foot expando designed predominantly for live sports, but will also cover live and live-to-tape entertainment and corporate broadcasts.
Trio's first HD unit, Tango, was launched in 2003 and featured an Alpha 100 digital board. The truck has proved a huge success and was a deciding factor in the design of the brand new unit.
"In raising the bar for building our HD mobile units, we studied long and hard to find the right mixer," says Trio Senior Audio Engineer Paul Culler.
"It seemed to us that there was only one digital mixer series that would give us the performance that we were seeking and that was the Calrec "100" series.
"After several months of using the Alpha in Tango we found that there are very few questions asked by our audio engineers when they first sit behind the desk. They all find the architecture to be very well thought out and seem to easily find their way around the control surface."
Chicago-based Trio Video, the leading mobile television production company in the U.S. Midwest, operates nationwide, providing facilities and crews for broadcast and cable clients, entertainment companies, professional sports teams and major corporations.
"The Alpha was instrumental in our decision to purchase the Sigma, due to the consistency between the two series allowing for Alpha operators to work the Sigma with no additional learning curve required," says Trio Director of Production and Marketing Keith O'Brien.
"The control surface architecture, metering, boot up time and reliability on the Alpha are all features which have proved particularly useful."
"Working with the Calrec folks is always a pleasure," adds Jack Walsh, Trio Video Managing Partner. "No problem is too big to work out. Calrec is a great, personable company - they are able to work out console configurations that fit our needs and budget."
