Meridian Chooses Calrec for New Broadcast Centre

ITV broadcaster Meridian has purchased three Zeta 100 digital consoles for its brand new, state-of-the-art broadcast complex.

Meridian has transformed its ITV franchise operation and reconciled its three existing regional studios onto a brand-new site at Whiteley, near Southampton. Its three studios are designed to produce a high quality output, and according to ITV Controller News Projects and Systems Paul Stevenson, a flexible, modern and reliable audio chain was critical to that.

"The Calrec Zeta 100 console was a natural choice," he says. "Calrec's C2 consoles are the most familiar to us at Meridian, but Calrec kit is in service around ITV…these new desks actually replace the C2s.

"Digital is a more future-proof standard and gives us considerably more flexibility. The Zeta gives us value for money, flexibility and supreme ease of configuration, while our experience with Calrec has always been positive."

The studios will be used on a daily basis serving Meridian's three sub-regional news magazine shows and produces bulletins throughout the day, the main ones being Meridian Tonight at 18.00 which runs for 30 minutes. The Whiteley operation replaces the current Meridian operation based at Southampton.
