Lyon Puts Alpha to Work!
Lyon Video has installed a 72 fader Alpha 100 into 6HD, their brand new multi-format Hi Def mobile unit.
Designed by Lyon Video’s engineering staff, 6HD is a new 53’ trailer with a 49’ expanding section. The truck is capable of 1080i, 720p, 24p and standard definition production.
The purchase follows the installation of a Q2 analog console in Lyon’s mobile unit 5.
"Our first experience with Calrec was the Q2," says Lyon Video Account Manager Chad Snyder. "The desk proved so magnetic for clients and operators that when we initially planned this HD unit, the Q2 was in the design.
"However, after reviewing our client’s requests and our available options, it was clear the Alpha 100 was the desk we wanted. The Calrec user interface makes getting shows on the air a simple task, despite the Alpha being an extremely sophisticated mixer. With the addition of TFT displays, our choice became crystal clear - the operators love the displays."
The new unit is primarily used for live broadcasts and live-to-tape of sports, corporate and entertainment events. Since its construction, 6HD has covered NBA basketball, college basketball, NCAA Big 12 championship and NCAA Frozen Four hockey championship.
"By starting with a fresh sheet of paper we have been able to build a HD mobile unit that operates fully loaded with its own equipment compliment," adds Chad.
"Additionally we felt strongly that being able to walk from end to end of the mobile unit while being sheltered from the elements would be advantageous for production teams and operating crew."
