Telegenic Score with Calrec Alpha

High Wycombe-based Telegenic has installed a 48 fader Alpha console in their record-breaking T8 digital OB unit as the company gear up for 5.1 Surround mixing.

Established in 1980, Telegenic has developed an enviable reputation for location broadcasting and currently operate four digital trucks; the remaining three vehicles have two S2 series and a C2 series Calrec console.

Telegenic’s T8 Hi Def unit made headlines at its launch in 2002 as the first High Definition unit in the UK. As part of a massive technical overhaul the Alpha replaces the truck’s original S2 analogue console, and is Telegenic’s first digital audio desk.

"As part of a major refurbishment to our existing High Def truck we have greatly upgraded the sound area to handle Dolby 5.1," says Telegenic Head of Sound Dave Rowley.

"The Alpha is our first digital console, but with the upcoming requirement to produce 5.1 mixes we felt it was absolutely essential to have a digital desk. We particularly like the new TFT meter screens and the immense flexibility of the desk. We have also been impressed with the way Calrec have managed to ease analogue users into a digital world while keeping a familiar work surface and feel to the desk."

T8 will be used live to air every weekend as part of its commitment to Sky football during the 2005/2006 season. It is currently covering Masters Football regional heats for Sky Sports, having broadcast three live shows in its first two weeks on the road.
