ITV Anglia Double up to Calrec

ITV Anglia is the latest ITV News Group station to switch to digital audio with Calrec following the purchase of two 32 fader Zeta digital consoles.

The installation brings the total number of Zeta consoles in ING (ITV News Group) facilities to eight: two Zeta consoles have been installed at Tyne Tees, with another at ITV Central and three consoles at ITV Meridian.

The two Anglia consoles will be installed at Anglia House in Norwich in Studio 1 and Studio 2, used principally for Anglia News (East and West regions).

"The installation at Meridian was a deciding factor on the purchase of the desks at Central, Tyne Tees and Anglia," says Paul Stevenson, Controller of News Systems Projects, ITV News Group.

"Meridian was developed as a template for the other ING new build installations. The Calrec consoles were chosen after extensive research by ITV and the consoles have proved to be an effective choice both technically and operationally."

Both studios at Anglia are brand new, having converted the old studio floor and control rooms into two equal-sized facilities. They will be used for live broadcasts every day, several times a day - all local news bulletins will be broadcast as well as early morning opt-outs from GMTV.

"The operators are delighted with the Zetas – they are incredibly straightforward desks to operate," adds sound specialist Martin Clarke.

"Our template has involved locating a solitary eight-fader panel in the Gallery for the late-night production mix in addition to the 24 fader surface used for the main news mixes. The production mix faders are operated automatically by GPI switches via the playout system. This has proved a real benefit, and the memory refresh facility on each mix set up has saved us hours! The Zeta is exactly what we need – it just gets on and does the job."

ITV Anglia is the ITV regional franchise for the east of England, producing news and regional programming as well as programming for ITV and other networks.
