Dome Productions Take Delivery of Alpha #3
Dome Productions, Canada’s largest mobile broadcasting truck operator, has purchased its third Alpha digital console.
The 72-fader board will be installed in its latest HD production unit, Trillium, which will hit the road on April 1st. Dome will be using the console for mixing entertainment and sports programs for such clients as TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, and ESPN.
"The Alpha is the best board out there for doing live TV," said Curtis Skinner, manager of engineering at Dome Productions. "We like that all the consoles have the monitoring directly on the board and that they have such an intuitive set-up. Our operators find them very straightforward to use. Plus, we are very happy with the first two Alphas."
Skinner also likes the Surround Sound capabilities of the board and its flexibility between different broadcast formats. "Although the majority of our clients want HD production these days, we still have clients that require analog and SD services. Trillium can handle these types of formats and so can the Calrec Alpha."
The Trillium Alpha is the third Alpha owned by Dome. The operator has a 72-fader Alpha in its Majestic HD mobile unit and a 64-fader Alpha in its Horizon HD truck.
In addition, the company’s Unity and Tribute SD units feature one 60-channel Calrec S2 analog console each. Dome, which currently operates 10 mobile units, has purchased a Calrec Alpha each time it has built a new HD unit, starting with the first in 2004.
