‘Calrec Helps Us Put a Better Product on the Air’

Gunning for a bigger piece of the action in the million-household Raleigh-Durham market, WNCN-NBC chose a 48-fader Zeta console to help modernize operations and improve program quality.

WNCN, located inside the beltway of North Carolina’s capital city, broadcasts about four hours of locally produced news every day besides doing commercial production and special events.

Part of a renovation at the NBC affiliate, the station went with the Zeta to replace a 10-year-old analog board because operators were familiar with Calrec products and also because of Calrec’s reputation in the industry.

“The Zeta provided the best value for the dollar,” says Henry Quintana, WNCN’s Director of New Media and Operations. “Not only does it have an outstanding feature set, it’s also easy to learn and operate.“

As WNCN continues to renovate and to redesign some elements of its operation, the Zeta board’s flexibility is proving to be an unanticipated benefit. Because the board is programmable, WNCN can have a setting for each operator, from the newest to the most experienced, which makes training new operators easier.

“The Zeta makes my life easier, and it helps us put a better product on the air,” adds Quintana.
