Global Debut of X2 Radio Console

Making its worldwide debut at AES in Vienna, the X2 radio console is an all-digital self-op radio or Grams console designed for on-air operation.

The desk is the first radio desk to be built on Calrec's award-winning Bluefin technology, providing an extremely robust system available with 6, 12, 18 or 24 faders.

“X2 has been designed to allow simple Presenter Operated programmes to be made easily with only essential controls being present as part of the desk's hardware,” says Calrec’s Sales and Marketing Director John Gluck.

“For more complex programmes the central screen provides access to more advanced functions, including control of routing, memories (including save and load from disc or memory sticks), fader labeling, signal processing and signalisation using the comprehensive GPIO facilities.”

The X2 control surface hardware consists of drop in panels individually cabled back to a local console rack, enabling a wide variety of layouts to suit different operating practices.  A  second, remote rack houses the input and output cards, as well as control and signal processing.  Bi-directional communication to external scheduling/play-out systems is available.

The X2 has been chosen by the BBC English Regions for the next phase of the BBC English Regions radio refurbishment program with three consoles already on order and shipping later this month.
